The announcement comes just before the release of a memoir by Virginia Giuffre, who accused Andrew of sexual abuse. Andrew has denied the allegations but settled Giuffre's civil case in 2022 without admitting wrongdoing.

Andrew has consistently denied the allegations, but in 2022 settled Giffray's civil case, reportedly for around $16 million, without admitting wrongdoing. In a 2020 interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, Giffray said this. He needs to be held accountable. We need to show the world that the rich and the mighty can fall too. Giffray, who died by suicide this year, said she was introduced to Andrew by Epstein's former partner and associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently in a U.S. prison. Giffray's brother and sister-in-law, Skye and Amanda Roberts, shared their reaction to the announcement. We have shed a lot of happy and sad tears today. I think happy because in a lot of ways this vindicates Virginia. I mean, she was a truth teller from the beginning.
