Voters have expressed hopes for change, particularly in healthcare, education, and retirement. The rapid rise of Chega as the main opposition party has drawn attention, and with so many candidates, Portugal is expected to see its first runoff election in 40 years.

Ventura said he hopes to one day run for prime minister, prompting concern among some that his anti-migrant rhetoric could become a political reality. I don't want the far-right to win. I fought a lot and went through a lot for us to have freedom and democracy. I don't want us to go back to the old days. No way. The large number of candidates means Portugal is expected to have a runoff election, the country's first in 40 years.
