The pursuit began after a school student reported suspicious activity, leading officers to chase the vehicle, which reached speeds of 80 km/h before crashing into a parked car in Merrilands West.

Three suspects were apprehended—two after a foot chase and one with assistance from the dog squad and air wing—while a fourth remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. The car was found to be stolen from Melbourne with fake plates. The alleged driver, Magdi Hassan, pleaded not guilty to all charges, and two other accused passengers are due in court as police continue their investigation.

The driver allegedly reached speeds of 80 kilometres an hour in 50 zones before it all came to an end on Patent Street in Merrilands West. The Mercedes crashed into a parked car before the group ditched it and ran. Two young men caught after police followed on foot. Shortly after, a third male with the assistance of the dog squad and the air wing were arrested in the backyard of a neighbouring premises. A fourth still on the run. He's described as being of African appearance, between 18 and 25 years old. He was wearing a black tracksuit with grey shoulders on that tracksuit. He should be considered armed and dangerous. The car was seized and searched. Checks allegedly revealed it was stolen from Melbourne and had fake plates. One of the highway guys was going through the Mercedes, taking photos, taking stuff out of the car. He's still on his provisional licence, but 20-year-old Magdi Hassan is accused of being in the driver's seat. Today he pleaded not guilty to all charges, including possessing an unauthorised pistol and police pursuit. He has a presumption of innocence, so we'll receive the brief of evidence and make a determination of the strength of the prosecution case. The two accused passengers, 19-year-old Roger Tell and 22-year-old Kabu Bringy, didn't appear today.
