Sydney's gun violence is back in the spotlight after video emerged showing what appears to be an attempted hit on an underworld crime boss. It's the latest in a surge of firearm incidents across the city.

Police are investigating an attempted shooting in the Sydney suburb of Cecil Hills, where a masked individual targeted a man identified as Nasa Kalachi, a former crime family boss. The attack, which did not result in injury, is part of a recent surge in shootings across Sydney, with at least nine incidents reported in the past month.

Kalachi, who has a history of criminal convictions, denied any knowledge of the incident when contacted by media and suggested his identification may be a result of misinformation. Authorities are examining possible links to Sydney's underworld as part of their ongoing investigation.

The target 55 year old Nasa Kalachi former boss of the Kalachi crime family turned debt collector and real estate agent. The father of three was jailed in the early 90s over an attack on a 17 year old doused with petrol and set alight. Again in 2009 for his role as the ringleader of a scheme defrauding the Commonwealth Bank of two million dollars. Then arrested at a traffic stop in Cecil Hills over using COVID rental payments to set up homegrown narcotics labs in subleased properties. You don't really know people until I read in the news and I thought oops. Despite being named as the victim online and his resemblance to the man in the video Nasa Kalachi told 10 News he doesn't know anything about it. Pointing the finger to AI and adding there are plenty of crazy people out there. Any alleged ties to Sydney's underworld also part of the police probe. But this is just one of at least nine shootings carried out across the city already this month. Police are foiling a plot to be carried out by a kill team near a child care centre in Revesby. But failed to intercept the assassination of former UFC fighter Saman Mokhtarian in Riverston. Before four more hits in the southwest in just 24 hours in the past week. My brothers sisters it all has to stop. This killing of each other has to stop. It's been going on too long. Police just yesterday saying.
