Exclusive video obtained by FOX 5 NY's Linda Schmidt shows the moments two people were killed in a hit-and-run in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, the NYPD said. The driver fled the scene but is now in custody.

A 23-year-old man has been taken into custody after a fatal hit-and-run incident in the Sunset Park area of Brooklyn. According to police, the suspect, identified as Juventino Anastasio Florentino from Staten Island, is accused of striking and killing two men, aged 59 and 80, as they crossed the street at Third Avenue and 52nd Street.

Surveillance footage showed the vehicle, a dark BMW, speeding and running a red light before the collision. The suspect has been charged with two counts of manslaughter, two counts of criminally negligent homicide, as well as speeding and running a red light. Local officials have expressed concern over the handling of hit-and-run cases and called for stricter enforcement.

This video is disturbing. We're going to show that to you though in just a moment. But first, the N. Y. P. D. This happened at 20 after four this morning, this deadly hit and run in less than seven hours. Police have a suspect in custody and he is 23 years old. He has been identified as Juventino Anastasio Florentino and he is from Staten Island again under arrest in custody. And from the surveillance video you are about to see this, you will see he was flying and I mean flying up Third Avenue. Now go ahead, take a look at the video and you can see where the two men, the two victims 59 and 80 years old, they were walking on the sidewalk and then they started to cross the street at Third Avenue and 52nd Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. When that dark BMW plowed right into these two men, sending them flying. Now, as I said, the video was very disturbing. So we pause the video before the impact because it really it takes your breath away when you see this video play out. And that's what we had an opportunity to do earlier today. Now, I spoke with a state senator who represents this area and what he was telling me is that the two victims both live in his district. One lives nearby here in Sunset Park, another lives in Bedford Stuyvesant. So he is very angry because of the way these hit and runs traditionally get handled. Here's what he had to tell me earlier today. I remember when Mayor de Blasio implemented this vision zero program, you know, to me as a retired cop, it's more like zero vision because it's not working. We have to punish the drivers that are reckless, the hit and run drivers. Nobody ever goes to jail. We need to send people to jail. We need to stop this nonsense. A lot of cars out here not insured. Uh, everybody's talking about defund the police. We have to let the cops be the cops, let them stop the cars, let them do their car stops, let them do their investigations. And these are pictures taken from another surveillance video of this fatal hit and run again, killing a 59 year old man and an 80 year old man as they were walking across the sidewalk at 52nd Street and Third Avenue. The BMW you can clearly see it is a very dark BMW.
