Initially created to combat type 2 diabetes, these drugs have been repurposed by non-diabetics to help them lose weight. One in 10 Americans already take GLP-1s, like this self-described foodie who lost nine kilograms in two months. She also found the drugs helped her change her habits. I cut down on alcohol a lot. And I was starting to work out a little bit more, get more steps in every day. And since I lost my appetite quite a bit, I had to be very mindful of making sure I ate a lot of proteins. This week, the U.S. approved a GLP-1 drug that can be taken orally instead of injected, which is expected to broaden access to the treatment for even more Americans.
