The White House has warned against closing the strait, and experts suggest that while US oil imports from Iran are minimal, global price impacts are likely if disruptions occur. Some shipping operators have already shown caution, with several vessels turning away from the region.

Now all eyes on the Strait of Hormuz the key pathway Iran controls where about 20% of the world's oil supply passes through. Iran's Parliament voted to close it off but hasn't acted on that. I think the market's extremely skeptical that Iran will be able to pull anything off there. The White House warning Monday against shutting down the Strait. The Iranian regime would be foolish to make that decision. President Trump posting on social media keep oil prices down don't do it. The U.S. does not get oil from Iran but shutting down the Strait of Hormuz would still impact what the U.S. pays for oil says economist Abby Hall. What happens in the Middle East and what happens to oil prices generally also reflects back within the United States. That means prices at the pump could edge up to according to gas buddies Patrick Dahan. Expect gas prices to modestly continue to trend upward over the next week or two but it's not going to be a spike it'll be a slow steady increase. Now even if the Strait of Hormuz stays open worries about the conflict could drive operators of those oil carrying vessels to really avoid that region. According to one tracking site six ships turned away after entering the area over the past day or so and some of the ships eventually went through but it could be a sign of more hesitation among those ship operators and whether they should send their vessels into that area or not Andrew.
