Nvidia has reached an agreement to acquire assets from Groq, a high-performance AI accelerator chip designer, for $20 billion in cash. This transaction, confirmed by Disruptive CEO Alex Davis, represents Nvidia's largest acquisition to date, surpassing its previous $7 billion deal for Mellanox in 2019.

As part of the deal, Groq's founder, president, and other senior leaders will join Nvidia to help scale the licensed technology. Groq will remain an independent company under the leadership of its finance chief, and the transaction does not involve the ex-Chatbot AI agent Grok.

CNBC scooped that the AI giant has agreed to buy assets from Grok, a designer of high-performance AI accelerator chips, for $20 billion in cash. That news coming from Disruptive CEO Alex Davis. Disruptive led Grok's latest financing round in September. In a blog post, Grok said its founder, president, and other senior leaders will join NVIDIA to help the company scale the technology NVIDIA is licensing. Grok said it will continue as an independent company led by its finance chief. The deal is NVIDIA's largest ever. Until now, NVIDIA's biggest acquisition was its roughly $7 billion deal for an Israeli chip designer in 2019. I believe that was Mellanox. But $20 billion is more than double, obviously, its last large deal. Grok, not to be confused with the ex-Chatbot AI agent Grok.
