Tremendous honour and I'm very proud to be elected as the leader of the NSW Nationals. But it's the leadership of the coalition's other half that's still very much under a cloud. Speculation about Mark Speakman's future only intensified today as he kept a low profile. Behind closed doors his party opted to remain committed to net zero emissions by 2050 despite the federal Liberal leader abandoning the policy. It also creates a point of contention with the new leader of the NSW Nationals who personally remains opposed to net zero. We want to see cheaper electricity but we also want to see it done in a way that doesn't hurt communities. It shouldn't be done at any cost. Before both parties can sit down to form a position on net zero as a coalition the Liberals will need to determine who leads that conversation. Mark Speakman survived today without a leadership spill with three days remaining before parliament rises for the year. Got a great relationship with Mark Speakman that will continue but that is obviously a matter for the Liberal Party. I think the coalition in NSW is entering an era of peak dysfunction.
