One of Australia's most notorious child murderers, Bevan Spencer von Einem, has died. Leaving behind a legacy of criminality and devastation, the killer has taken secrets from a series of cold case murders to the grave.

Bevan Spencer von Einem, a convicted child killer serving a life sentence for the 1983 abduction and murder of 15-year-old Richard Kelvin, has died from lung cancer while in custody in Adelaide, South Australia. Von Einem, 79, never cooperated with police regarding four other suspected murders linked to the high-profile group known as 'The Family.'

Despite von Einem being the only person convicted in connection with the Family murders, police believe others were involved and continue to offer rewards for information leading to further convictions. Suppression orders remain in place for other suspects' identities, and authorities state these are necessary for the ongoing investigation.

Von Einem was transferred from Portugaster prison to the infirmary at Yatla last month, hopes for a deathbed confession to another four alleged murders going with him to the grave. We always had that 0.001% chance that he would talk, even though within our hearts and souls we knew he never would. Young men Alan Barnes, Neil Muir, Peter Stognev and Mark Langley died between 1979 and 1982, believed violently murdered by a high-profile group known as The Family. Who frankly don't deserve to walk on the face of the earth. To know what was actually done I think would put a lot of demons to bed, because it'll stop the imagination. While Von Einem was the only one convicted, police believe several people are linked to the family murders and are still offering rewards of up to a million dollars to anyone who provides information that leads to a conviction. But with secrecy orders on the identities of other suspects still standing, Robin fears she may never know peace. These people come across as a protected species, so why are they protected and we're not? The Premier says the suppressions remain valuable to the ongoing investigation. Brianna Boylan, 10 News.
