The severe weather threat is increasing and is now a level 3 out of 5 across the Northern Plains and Midwest Thursday and Friday. Damaging wind gusts in excess of 75 mph and hailstones larger than golf balls look likely with a few tornadoes possible each day.

Meteorologists are tracking a significant weather system moving into the northern tier, with North Dakota expected to be impacted first. The system, driven by a large atmospheric trough, is forecast to bring severe storms, especially from Grand Forks to Fargo, with the potential for large hail and strong winds.

The severe weather threat is expected to persist as the system moves east, with unsettled conditions likely to continue into the weekend. Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain alert for updates as storms may remain powerful into the overnight hours.

Watch as everything pushes into North Dakota. And again, back Reynolds where we have that bigger trough, there's going to be bigger storms. That's a big engine. Now imagine making a drive westbound on 94 later on tonight. Boom, you may be running right into that. There you go. As we head through our Friday, everything's just going to continue to push eastbound with us. So again, we do have energy and here is that huge trough and you do get lift ahead of those troughs, but that's all going to be swinging in. And as we head into the weekend, we're going to continue to see unsettled weather. Okay, there you go. Red along the Red River of the North from Grand Forks to Fargo. And we could see a lot of these elements setting right up. Yeah, we have a lot of energy atmosphere. You've got some of those low level winds that can help give us a little bit of shear. And then you've got that wind aloft that's coming in around that trough. So it does look like we are going to actually see severe weather with some of these storms that develop, especially as we head into our Friday. There you go. You trade your Friday into the early morning hours, the midday and the afternoon, wow, my goodness, look at these. Yeah, big hail possible across the plains. So that's all going to be pushing East as we head overnight. Notice even at 11 o'clock, we've still got some big storms out there that could be quite powerful. And then everything shifts East on our Saturday.
