Bonnie the border collie puppy has started her seagull patrol training at Sydney's Opera Bar. The popular initiative aims to keep food-snatching seagulls away from diners and revellers enjoying the popular tourist hot spot.

Bonnie, a young border collie, has started her training as a member of the seagull patrol team at Opera Bar in Sydney. Under the guidance of James Webb from Mad Dogs and Englishmen, Bonnie is learning to keep seagulls away from food areas, making a positive impression during her work experience.

The patrol team consists of 35 dogs, mainly border collies and kelpies, each working four hours a week to prevent overwork. Bonnie, currently 17 weeks old, will be ready for her official shifts once she turns one year old, and early feedback suggests she is well-suited for the role.

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but you can definitely teach a puppy. And this one is a quick learner. Bonnie the border collie pup got her first taste of her future career today, as part of the popular seagull patrol team down at Opera Bar. Trained by dog walker James Webb from local business Mad Dogs and Englishmen, Bonnie showed plenty of promise chasing hungry seagulls away from food. With her protective work boots on, the young pup was making a great first impression on everyone. I haven't seen a seagull yet, so it's obviously doing its job. When you're having a nice meal, you don't want seagulls around. Really cute, yeah, I bet everyone loves them. Bonnie is essentially on work experience today, as she's only 17 weeks old, but she'll be ready for her first shift once she turns one. James has 35 other dogs on his roster, mostly border collies and kelpies, proven to be the best at keeping the birds at bay. We have a different dog every single day, so we don't overwork them. They do four hours a week, and that's it. When the dog is within, I guess, around about 50 metres of the seagulls, they will never take a single piece of food.
