Nationally, Johns Hopkins University data indicates that more than 1,200 cases have been confirmed, the highest number since the disease was declared eliminated in the U.S.

The majority of cases have been reported in Texas. Health experts caution that if the number of cases continues to rise, the United States could lose its status of having eliminated measles.
