The Powerhouse Museum in Parramatta is approaching completion, with construction now almost 90% finished. The museum, which features a distinctive exoskeleton design allowing for seven column-free exhibition spaces, is set to become the largest in New South Wales, spanning over 18,000 square metres. 

Despite previous delays and controversy, including concerns about flood risk, the government maintains that the museum is on track to open as planned. The opening will be marked by the burial of a time capsule, to be opened on the museum's 100th anniversary, and the venue is expected to host world-class exhibitions, including one tracing the history of flight.

From the outside, it's almost a work of art itself. And inside Parramatta's Powerhouse Museum, the walls are up in these vast spaces, ready to welcome world-class exhibitions. This is the biggest cultural build since the Sydney Opera House. The museum is now teasing some of the first shows that will soon fill these rooms. After years of delays plagued by controversy, including claims it's at flood risk, the government says the Powerhouse is still on track to open around September next year. It's almost 90% complete, and by the time the Powerhouse opens, it will span more than 18,000 square metres, making it the largest museum in the state.
