S﻿ydney motorists will pay tolls both ways on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Harbour Tunnel from late 2028. The NSW government said the change was designed to fund a permanent $60 a week cap on tolls across Sydney.

From late 2028, northbound traffic on Sydney's Harbour Bridge will be subject to tolls, coinciding with the opening of the two-way tolled Western Harbour Tunnel. The toll for some commuters will double, reaching up to $4.40 depending on the day and time, as part of the government's commitment to a toll cap.

To offset costs, motorists spending $60 or more weekly on tolls can claim up to $340 cash back, with a new annual cap of $5,000. Additional measures include scrapping $10 administrative fees on toll notices by mid-next year and introducing digital reminders for registered drivers before paper notices are sent.

Around $31 million of that to Blacktown LGA alone, with an average claim of $358. It's not the only cost-saving measure coming. Admin fees on toll notices, the $10 charges which double if you don't act quickly, will be scrapped by mid-next year. But by next week, registered drivers will start receiving digital reminders long before those dreaded paper ones are even posted. Another shift to help make driving take less of a toll.
