AccuWeather's Bernie Rayno takes a look at the snow and cold threat in the coming days for the central and eastern United States.

A deep snowpack currently extends from the north central United States to the mid-Atlantic, with three more weather systems forecast to bring additional snow and cold air to the region. The first system is moving from Minnesota and Wisconsin into New England, followed by a cold front expected to bring mostly flurries to the Midwest and mid-Atlantic.

A final, more intense cold shot is anticipated over the weekend, bringing very cold temperatures and the potential for accumulating snow from the Midwest into parts of the Northeast. Temperatures are forecast to moderate after this period of cold as the region heads into the following week.

More cold and snow on the way

It is a winter wonderland if you like snow from the north central US all the way toward the mid Atlantic where we have a deep snowpack in place and we're not done. We're tracking three more systems that will be pushing across the lakes and the northeast over the next couple of days including the snow that we're tracking here tonight from Minnesota, Wisconsin and into New England by tomorrow. There's another cold shot coming then as we get into Thursday and Friday that is mostly going to be flurry shouldn't be a whole lot of snow with this across the Midwest and mid Atlantic but the caboose the final cold shot arrives this weekend. This is going to be some very cold air January cold a continuation of that as we head in the Sunday and Monday and that cold shot could be accompanied by accumulating snow from the Midwest in the parts of the northeast. After that the cold finally eases as we head in the next week but what a stretch of cold we've had to contend with.
