Rose, the sport’s all-time hit leader, and Jackson, a member of the infamous 1919 Chicago White Sox team, had previously been banned due to their involvement in gambling scandals.

According to a statement from Manfred, Rose and Jackson are among 16 players and one former owner who have been removed from the list of those ineligible for Hall of Fame consideration. Manfred indicated that individuals no longer living "cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game."

With this decision, the earliest that the newly eligible players can be considered for induction is December 2027. The development is expected to prompt ongoing discussions regarding whether these figures should ultimately be enshrined in the Hall of Fame.
