There was heartbreak for Jack Miller at the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix after crashing out early. Spaniard Raul Fernandez claimed his first MotoGP win in front of a crowd of 38,000 at Phillip Island.

Raul Fernandez, a 20-year-old Spanish rider, achieved his first ever MotoGP victory at Phillip Island with a commanding performance. The race faced delays due to strong winds, but the weather did not deter over 38,000 fans on race day and a total of 91,000 over the weekend, marking the highest attendance since 2012.

Australian contender Jack Miller, who started from third on the grid, crashed out on the fifth lap, ending his promising weekend prematurely. Despite Miller's disappointment, there was local success as Joel Calso finished second in Moto3 and Senna A claimed victory in Moto2.

Chris, it was Raul Fernandez's day here at the island, the 20-year-old Spaniard claiming his first ever win in MotoGP in what was an utterly dominant performance. It was a very windy start to proceedings here at the island, but the rain largely held off. We do know that the race had to be pushed back an hour due to the windy conditions, but it didn't stop more than 38,000 coming in here for race day, 91,000 for the weekend, topping last year's numbers and the highest crowd since Casey Stoner's last victory in 2012. Many of course were here to see Aussie hope Jack Miller, who started from third on the grid. Sadly, he crashed out on just lap five, a disappointing end to what was a promising weekend. Take a listen to what he had to say. Yeah, all good, mate, just disappointed beyond belief, you don't, yeah, you know, everyone knows. Yeah, no, it was just one of those ones, settled in, pretty happy with the rhythm we had. Bike was pushing a little bit from the rear to the front. So despite the disappointment for Miller there, there was some success for the Aussies. Joel Calso finished second in the Moto3, and then Senna A just took out the win in Moto2.
