When the pink jet flies, it's all eyes on the sky at California's Apple Valley Airshow. Built for military training, its new mission is inspiring and empowering those battling breast cancer. Pilot Stephanie Goetz is showcasing her aerobatic skills, a former North Dakota news anchor. Thanks for joining us tonight. It was a story on aviation that took her career in a new direction. I went and did the story, flew the airplane, and I just thought, where has this been all my life? I am absolutely enthralled and in love with this, and I want more of this. Now a professional pilot, she's president of the Pink Jet, a nonprofit raising funds for research and supporting breast cancer survivors. Among them, Goetz's mom, Susan, who had a double mastectomy two years ago. Going back to that day, even when she had surgery, her surgery lasted like eight hours. That feeling of helplessness, and she had stage three breast cancer. We could have lost her. Olga Sannikov also pilots the Pink Jet, a classically trained pianist. She gave piano lessons for 20 years before shifting gears to chase her dream of flight. What is the adrenaline rush that you all feel when that plane starts to take off? It's otherworldly. The feeling, the noise, the sound, the feel, the smell, empowering, it's freedom. Their shared passion for planes and concern for those touched by the disease has become a beacon of hope and resilience, a message that resonates at airshows across the country. There are women that will come up to us at the jet, and they walk up and they're almost in tears. They're like, thank you for just showing me that I am supported, and there is a community. It's got to be especially motivating, I mean, Olga, to know that you're doing something that is so important, but also is so poignant to so many people. I know what it's like to lose someone, and to know that I'm trying to contribute or doing one small part that hopefully can save a life or make a child's life a little easier and not having to go through the pain of losing a loved one. A symbol of strength, the pink color attracts girls of all ages. Excited to learn, they, too, can take a seat in the cockpit. Girls can do it, too. You know, like, everyone has the strength and power to do something. It shows me I can get through anything as long as I put my mind to it. These little girls and their families that come up, they're like, we came to the airshow just to see the pink jet because our girl was not going to say no, would let us say no to her. Then Getz invited me to hop in and experience the power of the pink jet. Would you be up for a roll? Oh my gosh, let's do it. I couldn't resist getting a peek at her perspective. This is the best amusement park ride I've ever been on. It's pretty fun. This warbird is a force for good, a loud reminder to get regular screenings because no matter who you are or where you live, breast cancer may touch your life. You'll have a cancer survivor come up and it breaks your heart, and then you'll see the, you know, the brighter side of the jet where it's 15 little girls lined up with big smiles. It's my heart melt. They're so sweet. Lightens up your day.
