D.C. police have arrested the man who they say shot a three-year-old girl in D.C. over the 4th of July weekend. She died in the hospital days later. He has been charged with first-degree murder.

A 24-year-old man, Charles Rucker, has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of three-year-old Honesty Cheeto in Washington, DC. The arrest was made with the assistance of the FBI, US Marshals, and DC Housing Police after a week-long search. According to police, Rucker allegedly fired into a car where the child was sitting with family members, resulting in her being fatally struck. Authorities believe the shooting was intended and that Rucker may have known the family. He has been charged with first-degree murder. Community members have organized a fundraiser and a candlelight vigil in memory of the child.

Today the 24 year old was wanted for the fatal shooting of honesty Cheeto on Saturday, July 5th. Detectives say while honesty was sitting in a car with family members, Rucker allegedly opened fire at the car with one of the bullets hitting the child's her family confirms that she was shot in the head. She was rushed to the hospital and later died. We are also learning that Rucker lived in the neighborhood not too far away from the scene of the shooting. DC Police Chief Pamela Smith says they're still searching for motive. But appears that Rucker may have known the family. It's very frustrating. In this particular case, what we do know just based on the preliminary investigation is that this seemed to be an intended shooting. It was not one where we believe at this time that there were other individuals that were being sought at that time. We know today's news does not make you whole again. Nothing we can do will be able to feel the void left by honesty's passing but we know that there is still a lot of work to be done. She says they have created a fundraiser to help raise some money for her funeral services tomorrow. The community is also hosting a candlelight vigil for the three year olds.
