No official reason has been given for Mara's questioning. Mara recently visited several political and civil society figures in prison and referred to them as 'prisoners of conscience' on social media, a term that may have drawn the attention of authorities. Mali is currently governed by a military junta that assumed power in 2021.

There's been no official statement on why Marra's being questioned, but his use of the term prisoners of conscience may have irked authorities, with the implication that their detention is politically motivated. Mali is ruled by a military junta that seized power in 2021.
