The Regional Transportation District (RTD) in Denver is reinstating normal service on its D, H, and L light rail lines following a year and a half of repairs and construction. The D and H lines will now start and end at 18th and Stout, and the L line, which had been suspended, will be fully operational again.

The recent reconstruction project replaced 1,300 feet of aging rail infrastructure. While most community members welcome the restored service, some local business leaders in the Five Points area have expressed concerns about the L line's impact and are advocating for alternative transit solutions. RTD has not yet announced a start date for the next phase of construction.

Major changes to D, H, L Light Rail lines starting Sunday

We have some good news for RTD rail passengers this weekend. The D, the H and the L lines will all resume normal operations. Denver 7 has been following the impacts caused by the year and a half of repairs and construction, not to mention the frustrations of the interrupted service. Starting Sunday, both the D and the H lines will resume their regular travel patterns. The D line will start and end at 18th and Stout instead of at Union Station. The H line will once again also run all the way to 18th and Stout instead of ending at Southmoor. And the L line service will be fully reinstated. Tonight, Denver 7 is in the community along those rail lines. Denver 7's Daniel Croyder spoke to RTD about the service improvements and a business owner who says he actually would rather see one of those lines stay closed. Major light rail route changes and line suspensions are finally over starting this weekend. The most recent phase of RTD's downtown rail reconstruction project recently wrapped up. It really worked on some of the agency's oldest rail infrastructure and 1,300 feet of rail was replaced. So here's what's changing starting this Sunday. The H line that has only been able to go from the Florida station to the Southmoor station will be back to normal and go all the way downtown. The D line will also go back to its downtown route instead of being rerouted to end at Union Station. And the L line that has been suspended this entire time will be back in operation. Again in 2026, we'll pick up the next phase. That would happen along the L line again, this time on the Welton Street corridor. So that's where we headed and met up with Norman Harris, executive director of the Five Points Business Improvement District. Honestly, I think the train not running was a positive for this neighborhood. He says the delays, track design and general configuration of the L line in Five Points has inspired a movement to try to get rid of it altogether. If there were hundreds of people that the train were delivering to the doorsteps of businesses here, I'd be ecstatic about it. The vision would be to adjust some bus lines to help. The vision is gaining momentum. What I'd love to see for just the future of Five Points is for this corridor to be transit rich. RTD tells us there's no set time for phase four of their construction to start just yet. For now, whether it is to explore Welton Street or downtown Denver, starting this weekend it will be a lot easier to catch the light rail. I'm Danielle Kreuter, Denver 7.
