In Washington, U.S. lawmakers are once again debating how to regulate the growth of artificial intelligence. Mark Meredith has more on the solution the Trump administration is now considering. President Trump says if the U.S. is to dominate in artificial intelligence, the fewer regulations, the better. We are going to work it so that you'll have a one approval process, not have to go through 50 states. But some state leaders argue it's their duty to impose rules to protect the public. Whoever's saying how great it's gonna be, there's gonna be big pitfalls too. I mean, at best, right? Fox has told a presidential executive order meant to kill state regulation authority is on hold for now, but if eventually signed, it may create an AI task force to launch lawsuits against state regulations. On Capitol Hill, Republicans are considering including a moratorium of up to 10 years for state AI laws in a must-pass annual defense bill. It's complicated, but I think our members are taking a hard look at how best to do that, and the president clearly has weighed in on what he would like to see happen. Not every Republican is on board. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene posting, "'States must retain the right to regulate "'and make laws on AI and anything else "'for the benefit of their state. "'Federalism must be preserved.'" Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar supports AI regulation and says she's worried efforts are falling behind on the state and federal level. I want AI to succeed. I want our country to be the leader of it, but right now, we've literally, despite having some really good bipartisan talks, not passed anything. Fox polling shows Americans are split over whether AI is a good or bad thing for everyday life, with a majority, 53%, believing it'll be a bad thing for society overall. Four states, Colorado, California, Utah, and Texas have already passed laws regulating AI, and more states are expected to follow in the new year. Some tech leaders, including the head of OpenAI, have called for regulations, but only in limited amounts. In Washington, Mark Meredith, Fox News.
