Among the devastation in Ukraine's Kostiantynivka, residents are struggling to survive as Russian troops advance. Vladimir lives with his bedridden mother-in-law in a bombed-out building, bracing as winter sets in. It's stressful, of course, aren't we human beings? It's stressful. It's scary. It's a house of horrors. I'm telling you, everything around us has been hit. It's all burned down. He's fashioned a living space among the grey concrete walls, complete with kitchen cabinets and a stove. And he stocks up on food from humanitarian aid workers, who no longer deliver due to the danger. Russian troops are bearing down on the city in a bid to seize more land. That's as Kiev remains under pressure to accept a US-backed peace deal that could involve painful concessions. With Pokrovsk on the verge of capture, analysts believe Russia will now target the so-called fortress belt of remaining Ukrainian-held cities in the east. An open-source group Deep State said Kostiantynivka is the most vulnerable, with fighting already raging at its southern edge. Powerful explosions rumble in the distance and drones whir overhead, often several at a time. Such an explosion buried resident Yuri, who said he's still in pain after being pulled from the rubble by neighbours. He said his apartment may be blown apart, but it's his. President Volodymyr Zelensky was in London on Monday rallying support from allies. He described talks between US and Ukrainian negotiators as constructive, although not easy. Kiev has pushed back on Moscow-friendly terms proposed by Washington last month, and is seeking security guarantees from partners as part of any deal.
