The trial is scheduled to begin with opening statements at 9 a.m. on Monday and will include testimony from around two dozen witnesses. Judge Adelman instructed jurors to avoid outside influence and refrain from discussing the case until a verdict is reached.

Today the focus was all about selecting a jury and that was accomplished in about four hours, meaning no court proceedings will take place here tomorrow at the federal courthouse. This after a mixture of routine questioning by the judge, lawyers, and prosecution called voir dire. Questions like if they had any scheduling conflicts or had been to the county courthouse. This all unfolding in front of Judge Hannah Dugan who appeared in court with her legal team. Going even deeper and stemming from the questionnaire that each potential juror filled out, diving into their views on things like ICE as well as immigration enforcement and law enforcement. About a dozen or so called in individually into the judge's chambers. The goal, to weed out bias from a potential juror and to see if they can be fair and impartial. And this jury will need to be alert, according to David Jones, a former federal magistrate judge. We need to keep an eye out, making sure the jury is attentive. People get tired. Sometimes the judge will have the jury stand up a little bit, take a little stretch break. But my sense would be that this will be a big job of just keeping the mechanism moving in an efficient manner. Judge Adelman leaving this jury with a reminder not to let outside factors influence their decision and not to communicate with anyone about the nature of the case until after the verdict. The trial begins on Monday with opening statements. Then it's all about the evidence. About two dozen witnesses will be called to testify next week. This all begins 9 a.m. Monday morning.
