On the ground, hiking trails are closed, inaccessible to visitors. It really smelled like something was burning. It was something quite impressive because the sky was completely purple and there was ash on the car. With Vesuvius just nearby, it has been a lot taken. Local authorities say around 500 hectares have been burnt. An investigation is now underway into what caused the fire.
