A severe winter storm has impacted the Midwest, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and dangerous travel conditions. Multiple vehicle pileups occurred, including a fatal 14-vehicle crash in Iowa and a major incident in Detroit that temporarily closed I-75. 

Several regions, particularly in Michigan and Wisconsin, recorded snow totals exceeding 20 inches, and power outages affected parts of north-central Michigan. The storm system is expected to continue with intermittent snow and colder temperatures, while a rapidly intensifying 'bomb cyclone' moves from the Great Lakes toward eastern Canada and New England.

Let's go to the North Central now for a top story where the powerful winter storm has been bringing dangerous travel conditions. Take a look at this here from Northern Iowa, north of I-35. Police were on the scene of a snowy pileup after a blizzard brought heavy snow and strong winds to the region. And this was not the only crash. CNN reports one person was killed in a Sunday crash in a 14-vehicle pileup. And in Detroit, late this morning, state police say several crashes and at least one pileup led to the closure of I-75. CNN reports three semi-trucks and at least 20 vehicles were involved. Police say no injuries have been reported so far. And as of about 4-15 this evening, the interstate was allowed to reopen. But a lot of dangerous conditions out there and the snow, it's going to linger for a couple days, Jeff. It will. We have a series of clippers coming down the pike. So it won't be continually snowing at all moments. But there are, again, several of these clippers coming through. You can see it looks kind of splotchy here. These are the individual radar sites. There's Wilmington, Ohio, Indianapolis. And then we have areas like Davenport. And the radar scans the lowest part of the atmosphere near the radar site. So that catches many snowflakes. You get far from the radar site and the radar pulses, the radar beams overshoot some of the snow. That's a little bit lighter. These shallow snow showers that continue. So that's what we're dealing with here in the Midwest. Many areas still seeing light snow. Some slightly heavier up in areas near Angola, Indiana. A little burst of it moving into areas north of Fort Wayne. When it comes to power outages, still about half of one or two counties in north-central Michigan, not too far from Cadillac, are without power now because of the wind that accompanied the blizzard. And look at these top reports from the western Great Lakes. We updated the list here recently. Marquette, 25 inches of snow. Eckermann, Michigan, 24.5. Big Bay, Champion, Michigan there with two feet of snow. Guile, Wisconsin, with 20 inches. So pretty impressive snow there. The Great Lakes doing what they do. And now the wind that has been initially a southwest wind that warmed us up. We saw severe weather, several tornadoes. Here was one of the EF1s that led to one injury in western Indiana. There was an EF2 that tracked 24 miles through Illinois. The winds of change have been driving the colder air back in following yesterday's severe weather events. So there's been a lot going on here in the north-central U.S. The next clipper runs from Duluth to Michigan. And that one is going to brush us in Chicago with a little bit of snow, probably under an inch tomorrow, coding to an inch. 25 degrees, though, for your high. That's eight below the historical average. We're chilly into St. Louis. Kansas City's running five above average, though. And in Cincinnati, we're 10 below the norm. So the farther east you are in the Midwest, the colder it will be. The farther west into the Plains you are, the warmer it will be. And here's our next clipper, Duluth to Green Bay. This one, less than an inch in Chicago. Pretty unimpressive, but it will snow a little bit. Be careful out there. And then into New Year's Eve, here's another storm that tracks right through. And this one is going to more directly impact Chicago. Maybe we see more than an inch with that one on Wednesday. So lots of moving parts, cold but quieter for Thursday for the Midwest. But out of the storm that's barreling from the Great Lakes into eastern Canada and New England right now, this has strengthened more than 24 millibars in 24 hours. Tonight, becoming a bomb cyclone. And it's one of those things people are probably seeing that word on social media. They're thinking, okay, what does that mean? We look at the pressure as an indication of intensity of the storm. So, very intense storm. We've seen the impacts to go with it, everything, Jeff, that you were describing.
