Kids just want their parents to be involved. If you have, we have at my school books, books and breakfast. The parents can come before they go to work and sit down, have a book, read a book with their kids and have breakfast. If you can just do that, try to do something. Let your kids know that my mom came to the school to see me just for that one thing. Just try to do an event and that you have a lot of those throughout the year that you could choose from.
