Federal immigration enforcement operations have intensified in the Twin Cities, with reports indicating that up to 100 additional ICE agents have been deployed to the area. Local leaders, including the mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul, have emphasized that most Somali immigrants in the region are legally present and have urged residents to know their rights.

Community members have reported being questioned by federal agents without clear explanation, leading to heightened fear among residents. City officials have reiterated that local police do not participate in immigration enforcement and have called for any public demonstrations to remain peaceful.

Let's get over to Rob Olson. He is live in Minneapolis tonight with the latest on this. Rob. Yeah. You know what? This is something where the Minneapolis police chief had actually briefed officers during a roll call over the last 24 hours, every single roll call saying this wasn't because they had any notice from the federal government, but it's because of reports that were coming in from the community of ramped up federal operations. And true now today with reports that as many as 100 agents are being sent or are here. That has increased certainly the fear in the community and community leaders saying they will do everything to protect them. What they what they want to see? My passport. I give my ID. I give my passport, ID, everything. A leader here told us he's a citizen of the U.S. and has lived here for 25 years. A few minutes earlier, one of our photographers happened upon him and another Somali man being questioned by federal agents at Lake and Nicollet in Minneapolis. They said they had no idea why they were stopped. And soon after we arrived, the agents left. They asked me, have you been interviewed or what? I said, no, I haven't been interviewed. They said they're going to take interview on. And soon as you come, they said it's going to be hot. So they just run off. They took it off. We love you. We stand with you. And we aren't backing down. It was happening at the very same time as this news conference at Minneapolis City Hall, responding to a New York Times report that as many as 100 additional ICE agents were headed to the Twin Cities to crack down on Somali immigrants, a specific target of the Trump administration. And let's be clear, it means that American citizens will be detained for no other reason than the fact that they look like they are Somali. Police departments continually stress and did again today that they do not take part in immigration enforcement actions, but they do respond if protest crowds become unsafe, which is what we saw in St. Paul last week. The Minneapolis chief urges that any public response stay peaceful. And I want to be clear that we will absolutely defend people's rights to do just that. I also ask that if demonstrations do happen around any type of immigration raid, that they remain nonviolent. I know many families are fearful tonight. They are. But I want you to know that city Minneapolis stand behind you. Yeah, that's council member Jamal Osman, who said that, you know, urging people to make sure that they connect with resources here in Minneapolis to know their rights. The mayor stressing, in fact, both mayors in Minneapolis and St. Paul stressing that the vast majority of Somali immigrants are here legally. They're either documented or they're citizens, but they do worry about people getting swept up in the process here and again, urging everybody to know their rights and be in contact with help.
