Three people including two teenagers have been arrested after a home invasion at Kew in Melbourne's east. One of the residents will need surgery on his eye after he fought back against the armed intruders.

A violent home invasion occurred in Kew East, where five alleged offenders, some armed with a knife, machete, and garden shears, broke into a house occupied by seven people. The homeowner was confronted and sustained multiple injuries after a struggle, while other family members, including grandparents, were also hurt. The offenders fled the scene in two vehicles, one of which was later involved in a minor crash. Three suspects, aged 16, 17, and 24, have been arrested and are being interviewed by police. The injured family members have mostly been released from hospital, except for the father, who remains under treatment and requires surgery.

Thugs, some allegedly armed with a knife, machete and garden shears, entered the home, allegedly breaking a window to gain entry. The wife, or the owner of the property, has heard the commotion and has called out to her husband. The husband's come out of his room and been confronted by five offenders. But things escalated. Police say the homeowner fought back. There's been a confrontation inside the house where the father has been stabbed a number of times, or cut a number of times with a machete, in total 11 times. The grandparents tried to help their son. They were also hurt. Police say his wife and children, aged two and three, were ordered to stay in another room. Ten News has been told as the drama was unfolding, you could hear screaming and shouting, and at one point someone was heard saying, I'm going to kill you. Four of the alleged intruders took off in the BMW after just a few minutes. A fifth allegedly fled in the car they arrived in. There's no rhyme or reason in any of the targeting. They've just destroyed a family. Police say the BMW was involved in a minor crash with another car in Melbourne's west less than an hour later. Three people were arrested shortly after. The trio, aged 16, 17 and 24, are being interviewed by police. Meanwhile, two of the family members taken to hospital have now been released, while the father is still being treated and will need surgery on his eye. I don't know how I'd be if that was my family.
