Belinda Carlisle has released a new album titled 'Once Upon a Time in California', which features her interpretations of songs that influenced her as a young girl growing up in Southern California. The album includes covers of tracks originally performed by artists such as The Youngbloods, Gordon Lightfoot, The Carpenters, Harry Nilsson, and The Hollies.

Carlisle aimed to maintain the integrity of each song while adding her personal touch. She highlighted her cover of The Hollies' 'The Air That I Breathe' as a particular favorite, noting its anthemic quality reminiscent of her earlier work.

This album is, are the songs I listened to when I was a young girl growing up in Southern California when California radio was really special. And they were the songs that inspired me to want to be a singer. Other artists represented through Carlyle's voice include Gordon Lightfoot, The Carpenters, and Harry Nilsson. One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do. The thing is, I wanted to keep the integrity of the song, but make it my own. Covering The Hollies' The Air That I Breathe was a standout moment for the singer. I kept hearing something anthemic, which goes back to a lot of my earlier material, which is very anthemic actually. So that's the approach we took on it. And it was probably my favorite song to sing on the album. In Hollywood, I'm Rick Damagella.
