At a recent board of trustees meeting, residents voiced their worries, but the board did not directly address the comments. The dispensary's final step before opening is obtaining a permit from the Hastings building department, with sales potentially beginning within weeks.

The village of Hastings on Hudson is just weeks away from opening a recreational marijuana dispensary, a location that has some neighbors speaking out. Jeremy Hopwood has more. Marijuana on Main Street, a recreational dispensary perched on the key thoroughfare between the school complex and the town pizza store. That's what Hastings residents are facing tonight as each hurdle in the way of this marijuana dispensary beginning its operations continues to fall. A typical Tuesday night on Main Street, children at dance class which will be sharing a wall with the new dispensary. A Hastings mother speaking passionately at tonight's board of trustees meeting. Based on new research published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, jurisdictions that allow storefront cannabis sales have significantly higher cannabis use among teens. The board did not respond directly to the comments and continued with its agenda. The owner has previously defended the dispensary saying he's following all state rules. A co-owner Josh Elishar tells News 12 that licensed cannabis retailers offer regulated products and could reduce unlicensed sales. Having us there is going to take money away from illegal operations. It's going to take cannabis away from where the youth are getting it. Bob McKinnon, a Hastings parent, has worked with the White House Office of National Drug Policy. The other argument that I hear them make is that well this is a safer form of cannabis. That to me is the equivalent of saying like oh this is a safer handgun to give our children. The only remaining hurdle as of tonight for the operation of this highline marijuana dispensary is a permit from the Hastings building department to begin construction. Marijuana sales on Main Street could only be a couple of weeks away.
