He is speaking with a group of disgruntled former military generals, rear admirals, and veterans regarding the Trump administration's efforts to deploy the National Guard to Illinois. Paris Schutz joins us live now from downtown with more on Governor Pritzker's visit. Paris? Yeah, Anthony, those retired generals and service members are part of a non-profit nonpartisan group called National Security Leaders for America. They say they condemn the use of U.S. military personnel and assets on American city streets. They condemn the use of the National Guard over the objections of a state's governor. They say National Guard members are not trained. Military is not trained in urban policing. They are not trained in de-escalation. They are training for war, and that is not what they should be used for in the United States. They condemn the calling of the National Guard in D.C. saying they were disgusted by images that National Guards members were picking up trash and cleaning roadways. They say these Guard members make $11 an hour. They're get taken away from their jobs, from their families, and from training for war to be deployed on these kinds of assignments, and they believe that President Trump is using them as pawns. They echoed the governor's concerns of the politicization of the military, saying that it has no place in Chicago. It is Trump and Miller's agents who are operating like his own personal secret police, harassing civilians, tear-gassing communities, arresting journalists, and grabbing people on the street to ask them for their papers based on the color of their skin. This is intentional. Chaos, confusion, and destabilization are the means. Eroding our democratic institutions is his end goal. ICE agents are not trained soldiers. They're not trained soldiers, and they don't show the discipline that soldiers do. They don't obey the same rules of engagement that soldiers do. It offends me as a soldier that we have ICE agents, I think the modern term is cosplaying, I would say pretending to be soldiers. They're not sold. And that's the former commander of the Illinois National Guard, William Enyart, who said he was offended at the notion that some of these federal immigration agents are dressing up in camouflage with weapons, walking down city streets as if they're military members, thinking that maybe the design is to make the public think that they are to get them used to the militarization of American cities, saying that's all bad. One other side note, there was some news about the governor claiming on his income tax return 1.4 million dollars in gambling winnings on a trip to Vegas. I asked him about that today, 1.4 million dollars, that's a big number. He says he's an avid card player, he was on a vacation to Vegas with his wife and friends, had a very good night, and left while he was ahead, and says that that's what accounts for that 1.4 million dollars that he won while he was in Vegas. The Trump administration is awaiting word from the Supreme Court after asking it to allow the immediate deployment of National Guard troops to Illinois to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. A lower court blocked the move.
