Gazans are slowly returning to Khan Younis after being forced to flee months ago due to intense bombardments amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. While back in familiar neighborhoods, many Gazans are finding nothing but wreckage.

Residents returning to their neighborhoods are confronted with the extensive destruction left behind, finding their familiar surroundings reduced to ruins.

After being forced to flee months ago, Gazans return to their Kanunis neighbourhoods to find nothing but wreckage. Saeed Omran, a physiotherapist, says he has lost everything. This is my apartment. I have been working for 20 years for my future. Everything is gone now. What did we do wrong? No one in our family is a member of any factions. While Ali, his brother, can't believe his home could be a target. A strike hit the area. We didn't expect it to target here. We went home and were shocked by the level of the destruction. Labelled a safe zone for civilians at the start of the war, December saw the first airstrikes on the city and the arrival of Israeli troops that same month saw hordes of civilians flee further south. Israel's withdrawal came as they said their various missions in the area had been accomplished. Despite which, dozens of fresh raids on Monday morning saw several more Gazans recovered from the wreckage and taken to hospital.
