Hospitals in central Gaza are facing severe challenges as they attempt to treat a growing number of wounded and sick people amid ongoing conflict. The Jordanian Field Hospital in Gaza City was evacuated due to heavy bombardment, forcing staff and patients to seek refuge in already overburdened facilities in central Gaza. 

Medical staff report that hospitals are operating beyond capacity, with some beds shared by multiple patients. Attacks on specialized hospitals, including Al-Rantisi Pediatric Hospital and the Gaza Center for Ophthalmology and Surgery, have further strained the health system. Displacement has worsened conditions, and doctors warn that hospitals could soon collapse under the pressure.

Gaza hospitals struggle to cope with influx of sick people

This is what the health system in central Gaza looks like right now. Overwhelmed, under-resourced, and struggling to cope with a surge in the numbers of wounded and sick people. One of Gaza City's main hospitals, the Jordanian Field Hospital, was forced to evacuate under heavy bombardment. Staff and all 107 patients were forced to flee the facility to central Gaza, joining already stretched hospitals here. Ever since we became displaced, my father has been negatively impacted and has become very sad. This has affected his health and he has become dehydrated. I am hoping they will be able to transfer him to Al-Aqsa Hospital. The needs of both patients and staff are immense. With Israel's advance into Gaza City displacing more people each day, doctors here warn facilities in central Gaza could soon collapse altogether. The Israeli occupation forces have deliberately attacked Al-Rantisi Pediatric Hospital. This is the only specialized hospital for children. It also targeted and destroyed the Gaza Center for Ophthalmology and Surgery, the only specialized center in the entire Gaza Strip. Among the new arrivals, a mother who fled Gaza City with her young daughter. The little girl is suffering from severe malnutrition. After days on the road, they finally reach this overcrowded hospital. But even here, conditions are dire. Displacement has worsened the situation inside hospitals in the south. Now you can see that instead of one patient in one bed, medical staff tried to fit two patients in one medical bed. Hospitals here were never designed to absorb so many patients and injuries. Hospitals in central Gaza are now at the epicenter of this crisis, treating the wounded and sheltering the displaced and embracing for even more arrivals as Israel's bombardment rages in Gaza.
