Four things to do in and around Delta, Utah

Let's road trip to Delta, Utah with our friend Lori Thompson, mom of eight, who is always on the go. Thank you for being here. Of course. Thanks for having me. Of course. OK. So let's go. Tell us. Well, when we went to Delta, I had so many people are like, why? And I was like, there are hidden gems all throughout Utah. And it could be a one day trip. It's not like a whole week in Delta. It's like a one day, but so much fun and unique things to see and do. So I always pause when I say the word Delta because I think like road trip and Delta, that sounds like an airline. But we're talking about the actual city of Utah, Delta, Utah. Just a couple hours down from us. Down south. Yes. OK, so it doesn't take too long to get there. And then once we're there, what do we do? I don't know. I thought you were going to tell me. No, I'm just kidding. That's why you're here. There's a lot of fun things to do on the way and in Delta and on the way home. So we kind of make a loop of a trip. But something we did for the first time was go to this Topaz Museum. Have you heard of the Topaz Museum? I haven't. I thought it was going to be like rocks and stones and gems. No, it's about the whole thing that happened with the Japanese-Americans that were in California, Oregon. And they were brought to here in Delta, Utah, like almost in a concentration camp. We were blown away with like I have chills. I had no idea this happened in Utah. We were blown away. When we were down in Moab recently, we learned the same thing. Yes. Because it's all kind of in that same general area. And to see the pictures and everything, it's startling. Because I never knew that this was happening in our own backyard many, many years ago. Right. But it's still fascinating to learn that it was here. Very much. Free museum, you need to go and check it out. Spend about an hour there. Just like blows your mind. Yeah, learns about the history. But more meant for like the adults, would you say? No, my kids were like fascinated. They're like, oh, I think I learned this in school. They knew a little bit more of it. Again, I was going in like we were looking at rocks and gems and stones. Because it says Topaz, not that at all. So it was so fascinating. My kids thoroughly enjoyed it. It was awesome. The R&D site, what is that? OK, this is wild and freaky and awesome. So it is an abandoned area where they have these weird solar panels. But it looks like aliens. Like you just drive next to it, it looks like these alien things. And then if you just like freeze, see how it's moving? Oh, like a window. It makes a little, and you're like, oh my gosh, it's haunted. And then, of course, all my kids are like, oh my gosh, it's haunted. I think I saw someone running over there. This is where. No one's there. It's totally abandoned. But it is kind of freaky. They should be filming Stranger Things. Exactly. So it's just, it was something useful back in the day several years ago. Now it's just abandoned. And it's like super fun to just check out and kind of scare your kids with. Yeah, kind of creepy and freaky, but also really cool at the same time. So unique and different. You can't find this anywhere else. The wood pile. OK, Paul Bunyan's wood pile. It's a short little hike. There's absolutely no shade. So don't go when we did a couple weekends ago when it was so hot. But it is a crazy hike that you just walk up that hill. That little mountain in the back, if you get up closer, it looks like logs, these huge, giant logs. So it's Paul Bunyan's wood pile. But it's not wood. It's the rock formation. It's actual. Oh. And you can go up there. We've been there before. The kids have gone up there, climbed, and like parkoured up on there. Totally, you can do it. Again, we just went when it was a little hot. And we were like, we're done. We see it. We're good to go. Yeah. Not one that you actually have to hike to if you don't want. You can see it from your car. You can see it from, yes. OK. And then the railroad tunnel. The railroad tunnel. So this is the Tintic Railroad Tunnel. And all my kids are like, there's no way this used to be a railroad. And I'm like trying to like talk them into, no, this actually used to be a thing. So it's really out in the middle of nowhere. A lot of four-wheel drive and quads and stuff. We just went in our car. You can drive through it. You can walk through it. It's just something different and unique really in a lot of places. So it was, and it was, nobody was there. How long is that tunnel? It's probably like a length of a football field, a little less than a football field. So not too long, but you can. So we parked, we walked through it. You know, you can do the echo. It's super cold inside. And then we walked back, drove our car through, and then went on our way. OK. Road trip to Delta. Something unique and different. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, super different. And easy to get to, especially those last minute trips. You still want to stay home close to town before going back to school. Thanks, Lori. Yes. Of course.
