Two former police officers have been sentenced to prison for the assault of a woman in Emu Plains. The officers used excessive force during an incident in 2023, leading to their conviction and sentencing.

Two former New South Wales police officers, Timothy Trouch and Nathan Black, have been sentenced to prison for assaulting a 48-year-old woman in Emu Plains. The incident occurred when police were called to assist the woman, who was found naked on a street. Instead of providing help, the officers kicked, stomped, and used capsicum spray on her, including on her face and genitals. Body-worn camera footage and reports from nurses and paramedics led to their conviction.

Both officers pleaded guilty to charges of common assault and unauthorised use of a prohibited weapon. Nathan Black received a sentence of five years and nine months, while Timothy Trouch was sentenced to five years and six months. Both will be eligible for parole in 2028. The victim has since died from causes unrelated to the assault.

In their efforts to get her into an ambulance, then-Constable Timothy Trouch and senior constable Nathan Black kicked and stomped on the 48-year-old woman. They used OC, or capsicum spray, on her face and on her genitals. Black even dragged her by her hair. At hospital, when Black was asked if the woman had been sprayed on her genitals, he replied, yes, you have to do what you have to do. Both nurses and paramedics reported the event, and the officer's own body-worn camera and some CCTV were the pair's undoing, distressing footage Black shared with a colleague after the incident. In a message, he said, she was f***ed. The whole body-worn is so good. Shows her being f***ed. Mr Black, do you still think the video was good? Eventually, the video was used as evidence in charging both men with common assault and the unauthorised use of prohibited weapon being the OC, or capsicum spray. Both pleaded guilty. In sentencing today, Judge Turnbull said the events are shocking. The treatment of the victim was clearly brutal. Both former police officers were taken away in handcuffs. Black was handed a sentence of five years and nine months. Charged sentence was slightly less, five years and six months. Both will be eligible for parole in 2028. Anything you'd like to say?
