Flash flooding causes Menomonee River in Wauwatosa to overflow

Yeah, good morning guys. We're actually in a backyard here in Wauwatosa. And if you look behind me, this body of water was not here just yesterday. Brendan Tesmer, who owns this property, tells me that this is actually a part of the Menomonee River. He lives just about 150 yards past the Menomonee Parkway. He says because of the flooding last night, that has come all the way up into his yard. You can see those stairs lead down to more of his property and trees are down because of the wind damage. His whole backyard is underwater. If you can see, we're zooming in right now to his shed, probably about 70 yards away. That is completely, almost completely underwater. We're here with Brendan himself. What did your backyard look like just 24 hours ago? Paradise. It was written up in Milwaukee Magazine when it went up for sale. This is paradise and this is crazy. There's trees down, dozens right here. I mean, it's crazy. This isn't a flooding. This is the Menomonee River. You grew up in Wauwatosa. Have you ever seen anything like this? Absolutely not. Never seen anything like it. In fact, as a kid, you're not supposed to do this, but when it rained, we would raft down the river. If you rafted down the river today, kids, you'll die because you'll drown because it's cresting over the bridge. Dangerous. And you were just in downtown Wauwatosa near, you know, Cafe Hollander, things like that. What does that look like right now? Unbelievable. It's a 10-minute walk. It's right here. It's on the river. Buka Daban and Cafe Hollander are partially underwater. The entire railroad is underwater. The bridge is underwater. There's no way a train can pass and it's dangerous. So stay away from the river. Yeah, I guess when you're looking kind of at your property right now, you know, how did you wake up to this? What was your reaction this morning? Because obviously all this rain, all this flooding came overnight. I never thought I would ever buy a chainsaw. I just bought one, a Milwaukee chainsaw, because I mean, there's trees down here. Yeah. I know it's super early in the process. Are you worried about cleanup? Are you worried about, you know, how this is going to impact you? Absolutely. If you take a look at this, this eight tiers of land and stone has been here since 1961. This property has been written up in Milwaukee Magazine and it's never faced this that I know of. And I want to make sure the land and stone holds. I mean, this is not meant to be. This is crazy. Obviously, a lot of flooding in your hometown of Wauwatosa. You got a message to your neighbors, to people who frequent downtown. Obviously, there's going to be a long road to clean up. Absolutely. Everybody worked together. I lived in California for 35 years. I moved back to Wauwatosa. I grew up here because the sense of community is unbelievable. And go Brewers. Go Brewers. Well, we we know they're still playing today. We want to tell everybody to be careful if you're headed out there. But yeah, just one last look at this backyard here that is at least four feet deep. It's almost, you know, a pond now in Brandon's backyard as we look at it. So just more footage of, you know, this insane flooding that we've seen all over down. Yeah, all the trees. That's devastation. I mean, that's Mother Nature being ruined by Mother Nature, which is ironic. Yeah. Yeah. Well, we're going to send it back to you guys in the studio.
