Two men survived the incident and were transported to a nearby hospital. According to mountain rescue officials, avalanche risk was not considered particularly high at the time, but newly fallen snow may have contributed to the event.

Two men survived the accident and were airlifted to a nearby hospital in Bolzano. According to a spokesperson for the mountain rescue team, there was actually no particularly high avalanche risk on Saturday. It is possible that the avalanche came loose because of newly fallen snow that had not yet sufficiently bonded to the ground.
