Following the storm, the coldest air of the season will move in, with the Midwest experiencing the core of the cold on Saturday and the Northeast on Sunday. Strong winds and additional lake effect snow are also expected, contributing to a wintry weekend across the region.

It begins with a fast-moving storm across the Midwest. Saturday night, that storm pushes across the Mid-Atlantic and then it moves out to sea. While we're generally looking at one to three inches, there will be pockets of three to six inches of snow across the Midwest. Now, for the I-95 corridor from D.C. toward Boston, one to three inches of snow doesn't sound like a lot. However, it's going to be falling at night. Originally, when the snow starts, temperatures will be above freezing. Then, by the time we get into Sunday morning, temperatures will be in the 20s with that snow continuing, which means roads are going to be treacherous. Be especially careful of bridges and overpasses. They always freeze first as they're closer to the air temperature. Once the storm leaves, it's just brutally cold. The core of the cold on Saturday will be in the Midwest. On Sunday, it's in the Northeast. And, oh, by the way, on Sunday, with strong winds out of the north-northwest, more heavy lake effect snow. A wintry weekend is upcoming.
