A significant fire erupted at a new apartment and townhome complex under construction on Broadway in Long Branch, New Jersey. The fire, reported around 10 a.m., sent heavy smoke into the air, with strong winds pushing it into nearby communities such as Ocean Port, West Long Branch, Eatontown, and Tinton Falls.

Authorities confirmed that the affected buildings were unoccupied and no injuries have been reported. Firefighters are using high ladders to battle the blaze, and several streets in the area have been closed as crews continue to work at the scene.

we do start with breaking news out of Long Branch. Crews on scene right now fighting a fire on Broadway. News 12 Jim Murdoch is there. Jim, what do you see? Della, a very active situation here on Broadway in the city of Long Branch. I will step out of the way. Photo Chris is going to give you folks a wide view. There is so much smoke now coming off of this fire scene. We're talking about the area on Broadway, just a couple of blocks away from the ocean, about 1 56 to 1 60 Broadway. People here on the sidewalk that we're walking past are telling me that this is the new Kushner apartments and townhomes next to a Chinese restaurant that have gone up in smoke. We parked our news vehicle much closer to the scene and then we got moved back and kept getting moved back. But we did see firefighters on the roof of this complex under construction again. This is new construction here. This area was slated for redevelopment for years and years and years, and these apartments are not occupied. They were under construction, but around 10 o'clock this morning or thereabouts, a call came in that there was a fire at the Chinese restaurant. Now, as we were walking past, we did not see any flames by the Chinese restaurant. However, we did see a lot of smoke and flames coming out of the upper level windows of the under construction complex again. We are told this is the Kushner project. Just a couple of blocks away from the Atlantic Ocean. We're back live and what this is doing so that it is cold out here. Number one. Also, the winds are strong right off of the ocean blowing out of the east northeast up to 30 MPH. That is sending a smoke plume west into the Long Branch community. You're probably gonna smell this. If you live in Ocean Port in West Long Branch Eaton Town, even parts of Tinton Falls with this huge area smoke just blowing so far inland from the strong winds coming off of the ocean and you can see again just still so much smoke. We could see a couple of different streams of water from the high ladders on the fire. There is a window. We did see flames coming out of that window or that opening facing us just about two minutes before we came with you live here on News 12 New Jersey. We have no reports of any injuries as of this point. But again, the buildings themselves, the townhomes and the condos, the apartments, they were unoccupied at the time. So we're gonna work this scene. We're gonna try to get some more information. I can tell you that this will be going on for quite some time. It is best if you are in the Long Branch area, just avoid Broadway all the way west by a couple blocks. We are on Third Avenue and they have Third Avenue closed down and Broadway is shut down anywhere east of Third Avenue towards the fire scene. So we're gonna stay on the situation will bring you more updates when they become available. For now, we're live here in the city of Long Branch in Monmouth County.
