What happened at Bondi was immoral, unjust and indecent and Peter was none of those things. Peter was known as a beloved Randwick Rugby Club volunteer and respected former detective. A man of his community and his community showed up. He leaves a legacy not because he sought it, but because he created one through decades of simply being there. By his coffin, a police service badge, rugby jersey and his camera, tokens of his 61 years. Those there today trying to remember him for the life he lived and not how he died. Peter has been described as many things in the past few weeks, gentle, kind, quiet, quirky. He was all of those things and many, many more. Peter wasn't Jewish, but that didn't stop the community from paying their respects. So too did politicians. From Susan Lee to Chris Minns and even the Prime Minister, the first funeral he's attended of the victims, Ma's family sending a strong message. Gun reform alone will not solve hatred or extremism, but an anti-Semite without a gun is just a hate-filled person. An anti-Semite with a gun is a killer. Peter had been working as a freelance photographer for the Hanukkah by the Sea event when he was gunned down. Many of my friends and former colleagues were in that park that day, at that event. And I said to Peter as he left at 4.15 that Sunday, give them my love. And all of our lives are forever changed. He's the final victim of the Bondi terror attack to be laid to rest, while six survivors are still battling their injuries in hospital. The recovery also still continuing for hero Ahmed al-Ahmed. The man shot while taking down the gunman shared on social media that he's continuing his medical treatment in the US. Flanked by an FBI escort, he's set to also attend a Jewish gala dinner in New York. Back home work is underway to preserve the thousands of flowers laid in the days after the Bondi terror attack, which will then be turned into an artwork for display at the Sydney Jewish Museum. As work continues to memorialise the victims, there's a call for the footbridge here at Bondi to be turned into a permanent memorial, turning the site where the two shooters carried out so much violence into a place where people can come, learn and reflect on the tragedy. I would like to see that particular piece kept and memorialised. Calls also growing for the park to be renamed Matilda Bee after the attack's youngest victim. I think will trigger emotion and hopefully feelings that we do not go down this road again. A tragedy that's left its mark on so many, now left with just memories.
