Sudan is experiencing a temporary reprieve from the violence that has exploded across Khartoum in the past week. The capital's residents say that fighting had eased by Friday evening, as the Sudanese army and paramilitary group RSF agreed to a three-day ceasefire to allow people to celebrate Eid.

It's a partial reprieve from the violence which has exploded across Khartoum over the past week. Residents of Sudan's capital have said street fighting between the army and the paramilitary rapid support forces have eased in parts of the city by Friday evening. Both rival factions have been fighting for control of the country. Earlier on Friday, the RSF announced it had agreed to a three-day ceasefire in order for locals to celebrate the end of Ramadan. However, fighting was still ongoing despite the announcement. The truce coincides with the blessed Eid al-Fitr to open humanitarian corridors to evacuate citizens and give them the opportunity to greet their families. Along with the temporary truce, the RSF has also announced it was willing to partially open Sudan's airports during the 72-hour window in order to facilitate the evacuation of foreign nationals. However, it is unclear to what extent the RSF controls Sudan's airports. Since the start of the conflict, many foreign nationals have found themselves unable to leave the territory. The US and other nations have been looking for ways to evacuate their citizens. However, with some of the heaviest fighting happening over airports, the risk remains too high. Due to the uncertain security situation in Khartoum and the closure of the airport, it's currently not safe to undertake a US government-coordinated evac. Americans should have no expectation of a US-G coordinated evacuation at this time, and we expect that's going to remain the case. Meanwhile, the British government said its defence ministry was engaged in prudent planning related to the conflict in Sudan. This came after a report said that British troops and aircrafts had been put on standby to evacuate embassy staff and civilians.
