Raul Fernandez achieved his first MotoGP victory at Phillip Island, leading the race after early contenders faced setbacks. Australian rider Jack Miller, who started on the front row and carried national hopes, retired within six laps, disappointing home fans. 

Marco Betzecchi, who won the previous day's sprint, was penalized and dropped to sixth but managed to recover and finish third behind Fabio Di Giannantonio. The race saw several riders exit early, including Johan Zarco and Joan Mir, as Fernandez maintained his lead to secure the top podium spot.

The island buzzing with anticipation for an Aussie. A front row start for Jack Miller who was carrying the hopes of the nation on his bike. It's been a good weekend so far and hopefully we can top it off with a solid result today in the Grand Prix. But it was not the start he was after, dropping down to fifth. Yesterday's sprint winner Marco Betzecchi jumped fastest but it wouldn't last. His double long lap penalty meant he needed to surrender the lead. Johan Zarco was the first rider to lose control and then heartbreak for the home fans. Miller's race done and dusted within six laps. Spaniard Raul Fernandez remained in the lead. Marco Betzecchi served his penalty and rejoined in sixth. Joan Muir was next to go as the field shortened. Little change up the top of the order as Fernandez stretched his lead. Betzecchi continued to climb, jumping into fourth. Peko Bagnaia ended a dreadful day in the dirt. But it was Fernandez's day out on the island.
