A group of five masked individuals armed with knives, bats, and a pistol forced their way into a family home in Merrylands, NSW. The 47-year-old father, Joseph Tannous, was injured while defending his wife and two daughters during the brief but violent attack. 

The intruders fled the scene in a Suzuki Swift, which was later found burnt out in a nearby street, causing damage to a resident's car. The motive for the attack is unknown, and police are investigating. The family is recovering from the ordeal, and the suspects have not been apprehended.

The vicious raid unfolding in front of his wife and two daughters, aged 13 and 18. Sounded like, yeah, like in pain. The attackers arrived in a Suzuki Swift, gearing up before they launched the 90-second ambush and sprinted back to the getaway car. Minutes later, the hatchback winds up a kilometre away, dumped and torched in a Granville cul-de-sac. Right by one unlucky resident's one-month-old car. I really don't know what happened, but I've got some damage on my car, so that's really frustrating. I don't know what to do now. Getting pretty close to home. The 47-year-old father is today recovering from wounds to his head and hands after holding the attackers off. Today, relatives did not wish to speak on camera, but told 10 News that the whole family remains rattled by their traumatic ordeal. This isn't the first time their Maryland's home has come to the attention of police. I was a bit shocked, to be honest. I didn't think anything like that would happen around here, because it's a pretty quiet, friendly, family-orientated street. Tonight, the masked men are still at large.
