Thai troops are visibly present in some Cambodian villages, and authorities have not disclosed the extent of territory lost, emphasizing that borders remain defined by international treaties.

The situation on the ground remains tense, with empty streets, closed shops, and unexploded ordnance scattered across the area. Civilians face threats if they attempt to cross the new front lines, and many are waiting for the opportunity to return to their homes, which are now behind barbed wire and military positions.

Cambodian territory no longer accessible to Cambodians. The ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand is holding, for now. But on the ground, it's created new realities that will be far harder to reverse. Behind those containers and barbed wire is a Cambodian village of Chok Chai, now cut off from Cambodians. The Thai military have taken control. Now, the Cambodian authorities haven't said how much territory that they've lost to Thailand, but have repeatedly stressed that troop positions, the moment the ceasefire took effect, has no legal meaning, and that the borders are still defined by existing treaties and international law. Yet on the ground, Thai troops are clearly visible inside the village. Under the ceasefire agreement, neither side is allowed to move troops forward or send reinforcements. But it's civilians who are paying the price. My house is there, my gold, my money, Buddhist statue, my mother's ashes are there. They do not allow us to go inside. They threaten us, if we go inside, they'll shoot us. They told us to stay in Cambodian territory. The border with Thailand stretches more than 800 kilometers. Along it, streets lie empty. Shops remain closed. The damage from weeks of fighting is everywhere. In Prey Chan village, another metal container blocks the road. There is no notice, no warning. It's too dangerous to approach. We have to move out of sight of Thai soldiers. The situation here is tense, and any movement risks being misinterpreted as a military advance. The ground is littered with mortars that never detonated, as well as spent shells. And this Thai military vehicle was stopped by Cambodian soldiers after Thai forces attempted to advance. The ceasefire may have silenced the guns, but here, along Cambodia's border, it has frozen a new front line in place. Villages emptied, homes unreachable, people now living on the wrong side of barbed wire. And as civilians wait, unable to return, a Cambodian soldier watches from his bunker.
