They're more scared because they don't even know what those sounds are and they don't understand what's happening the way we adults do. But Mao had hoped renewed fighting between Thai and Cambodian forces would be short-lived. After all, there was a ceasefire agreement after five days of violence in July triggered by a long-standing border dispute. But after days at this evacuation camp, she still doesn't know when they'd be able to go home. Many families here share the same concerns, which is why humanitarian and aid organizations are stepping in with trauma intervention programs. So the ear that they hearing the sound of the bomb, instead they hearing the song in the safety center, in the reading camp. The eye that they see the fire, they see everyone like worried. When they did, it was charred and almost unrecognizable. And now they can't even take his remains home.
