In response, the EU has announced a €45 billion aid package for farmers beginning in 2028, as negotiations on the Mercosur agreement continue in Brussels. Despite this concession, many farmers remain skeptical, and demonstrations are expected to persist as the possible signing of the deal approaches.

Other agricultural unions have decided to hit the road for Paris despite prefecture's bans on tractors on roadways. Different ways of making their anger known, but many of the same gripes. Be it the culling of entire herds when there's a single case of lumpy skin disease. Be it the prospect of a Mercosur trade deal being signed in Brussels. Be it the falling price of wheat or the rising price of pesticides. French farmers are angry and they made that known in their talks late Tuesday with government ministers. In any case Paris we're going up, we'll do whatever it takes. We're not going in a violent way but a pacifist one. To explain to lawmakers that overall all of them have been betraying us for 40 years. For us the anger is immense. We told them if you don't give way we'll continue. France's prime minister said he'll have proposals by the end of the week. And in Brussels headway is also being made in regard to Mercosur. The trade deal is widely disliked among European farmers who fear it puts them at a disadvantage. But now the EU has promised a 45 billion euro aid package starting in 2028. So this concession may or may not calm fears. This as negotiations continue in Brussels. With sights now on a possible signing of Mercosur for next Monday.
