After breaking loose from her rescue farm on April Fools’ Day, a Pennsylvania pony ended up running into the arms of a police officer – and a new family.

Miss Fanny, a miniature pony, escaped from Horse Angels Rescue in Chester County, Pennsylvania, after being surrendered by her previous owners. The pony made her way across highways and busy intersections before eventually arriving at the West Town East Goshen Regional Police Department. Sergeant Ted Lewis, who was on patrol, encountered Miss Fanny as she approached the police station's driveway and was able to safely secure her.

The pony had only recently arrived at the rescue farm, after her former owners gave her up due to concerns about a severely infected growth on her face, which they feared could be cancerous. After bonding with Miss Fanny during her rescue, Sgt. Lewis decided to adopt her. 

Miss Fanny was later moved to a small farm owned by Sgt. Lewis' family, where she now lives with other animals. Sgt. Lewis and his wife covered the cost of surgery to address the growth on Miss Fanny's snout. The surgery results confirmed that the growth was not cancerous.



Escaped mini pony finds new family with officer who rescued her

Miss Fanny may seem mild-mannered now, but on April Fool's Day, she unleashed her wild side. Pine-sized pony slipped out of the gate at Horse Angels Rescue and bolted. She took off through the woods, and she was gone. Fanny hoofed it across Chester County, Pennsylvania, over highways and busy intersections. It's a miracle that she did not get hit by a car. Calls flooded into the West Town East Goshen Regional Police Department, where Sgt. Ted Lewis was on patrol. But turns out Miss Fanny knew exactly where to go. Since we were kids, we were always told that if you're lost, go find a police officer. And it seems like that's exactly what she did. Fanny was found trotting down the police station's driveway, and Sgt. Lewis was easily able to clip on a lead. She was just a sweetheart. She was calm, friendly, was just leaning up against me. And it was like we had been best friends for years. Miss Fanny had been surrendered by her owners to Horse Angels Rescue less than 24 hours before. They were looking to rehome her because she had a growth on her face that was severely infected. They thought it could be cancer and were unable to care for her. It wasn't long after Sgt. Lewis bonded with Miss Fanny. I usually get intimidated by horses, but not this one. The officer realized he wanted to adopt her. Now the mini mare has moved to a mini farm in Sgt. Lewis' family, where she spends her days with her new pack. To meet someone who saved this horse, found her, and then adopted her, it's the ultimate dream for any rescue. She's a good girl. Sgt. Lewis and his wife Ann footed the bill on surgery for Miss Fanny's snout, and luckily, no cancer. Come on, walk with me. She traveled a distance of almost three miles and just trotted right into my life.
