The Dragon Bravo fire, burning in northern Arizona near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, is now the largest active wildfire in the United States and one of the largest ever recorded in Arizona. The fire has burned over 140,000 acres, leading to the closure of the North Rim and a significant decline in tourism, which has affected local businesses in nearby towns such as Fredonia, Arizona, and Kanab, Utah.

While the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and several other nearby national parks remain open, air quality remains a concern closer to the fire. Major highways in the area have reopened, but the North Rim is expected to stay closed through the end of the year. In addition, the Billy Fire in the Tonto National Forest continues to grow, prompting evacuations in some communities.

The Dragon Bravo fire is now the largest fire burning in the United States. Currently, it's also one of the largest wildfires ever recorded in Arizona. Some local business owners say the fire is keeping tourists away. And Fox's Kennedy Hayes is live from Fredonia, Arizona. Kennedy, this is a problem. I mean, this is their business up there. Christina, John, that's right. And to give you an idea about where I am now, Fredonia, Arizona, as you know, a small town just south of Utah. It's also known as a gateway to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. And with this Dragon Bravo fire closing that part of the park, business owners tell me they're seeing fewer visitors. Visitor traffic is crucial for small businesses along the Utah-Arizona state line. We have Airbnb units, like hotel rooms, upstairs on top of the historic Redstone Theater. And right now, we've only got one person coming in today. Normally, they're packed and full at this time of the year. Dan Dillman owns the historic Redstone Theater in Kanab, Utah. He says moviegoers normally pack the seats. But this summer is shaping up differently, ever since July 4th, when the Dragon Bravo fire started burning. The fire is burning in northern Arizona near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. So far, it's burned more than 140,000 acres. That's an area bigger than the city of Atlanta. And it's forced the North Rim to close. Dillman's theater is about two hours north. The perception is, you know, that they've got to make other plans and go somewhere else. And that's going to affect us. That's going to affect, you know, the things that we have bought, whether that be candy and popcorn. You know, that stuff doesn't last forever. You can definitely tell that there's less traffic. We're kind of a drive-by. So, you know, it's not a destination point in Little Fredonia. You're down in Kanab. That's more of a tourist town. But yeah, and we just get people from all over the world. Wayne Otte, who runs a gift store, says he gets visitors from as far away as France and Italy. But customers have been scarce these days. I just hope, you know, it picks back up. I mean, I don't know what else to say. And the North Rim will remain closed through the end of the year. But the South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park is open, along with several other national parks nearby. John, Christina. Kennedy, tell us about any evacuations that are going on up there. Have those been lifted? And is smoke still a problem? Yeah, well, I can tell you, Christina, where I am now, right here in Fredonia, Arizona, air quality is okay. That also goes for areas near that Arizona-Utah line. But the closer you do get to the Grand Canyon, fire officials say there is still a risk when it comes to air quality, especially the North Rim, but also parts of the South Rim. But major highways are back open, heading towards the Grand Canyon. All right, Kennedy Hayes for us tonight. Kennedy, thank you. Thank you, Kennedy. We are also keeping a close eye on the Billy Fire, and it continues to grow. That fire is burning in the Tonto National Forest, now more than 17,000 acres. Containment down to 12%. Lightning touched it off last month. 15 miles south of Yonge, Arizona. It's about 30 miles southeast of Forest Lakes. People living in Murphy Ranch and Ellison Ranch, they have been ordered to evacuate.
